"75 Years Serving the Amarillo Community"

Letter From the President of the Board of Directors

                                                                                                                               June 14, 2006

To:        All friends of Catholic Family Service, Inc.

From:    Jake Richards, President of the Board of Directors

Dear Friends of CFS,

Each year around this time, we send out a letter from the President of the Board of Directors to our friends, supporters and volunteers to show our appreciation for a job well done.   My name is Jake Richards, and I recently became the president of the CFS Board of Directors.

It is an honor for me to serve this agency, and I am looking forward to a very bright future.   Things at CFS are going very well!  Every one of you has contributed to our success, and I thank you for your volunteerism and financial support.  I am very pleased to be working with the dedicated staff and Board members at CFS.    All of us are working hard to make CFS the very best it can be.   Visit our web site at www.catholicfamilyservice.org to see some of the changes we are making.

Although some of our programs are funded through government grants, two of our programs depend almost completely on private donations.  The programs I am mentioning help two of the most vulnerable groups in Amarillo:  children and the elderly.

The SOS Youth Activity Center provides supervised programs, including sports teams, drumming corps, workshops, and games for children 6 to 18 years of age.   Constructive activities and encouragement at our center means less juvenile crime and gang involvement.  A lot of low income families and single parents depend on SOS to provide a safe haven for their children while the parents are at work. We are still working on raising another $40,000 for SOS for the 2007 fiscal year.

The Inter-Faith Hunger Project celebrated its 20th year in 2006, and helps over 300 elderly and disabled people per month.   Inter Faith volunteers deliver groceries to 65 homebound people per month.  The program also has a grocery store where low-income elderly and disabled can come in and “buy” food with free vouchers.   We hope to raise $35,000 for this program in 2007.

I'd like to extend a personal invitation to you to come and visit us at 200 S. Tyler St.  We're located on the 2nd floor of the Tyler Street Resource Center.    There are many volunteer opportunities available.  And if you can't volunteer right now, please consider sending in whatever you can, whenever you can.   It is the support of people like you that keeps us going!

Thanks for allowing me a few moments of your time.    Please come and see the work in action at CFS.   We look forward to meeting you.

Warm regards,
Jake Richards, Board President
